i believe the key to defeating obama is two things. it is secondarily having someone who can stand on the same platform and defeat and decisively in debate by approving the difference between american exceptional as of and the radicalism of saul and skate. the difference between -- offshore development and natural gas for $29 billion worth of surprise with $80,000 per year job and his anti-american economic program. you need someone to carry that case so convincingly that they wash away half a billion dollars of advertising. second, you need a solid conservative because you need to be will to draw the contrast. if we run a moderate who is in any way close to where obama is, we will lose. the moderate will not be able to explain anything. [applause] my only appeal to you -- i will say two things and then i will get out of the way for rick santorum. i will say two things about why i think i am uniquely qualified. i helped reagan with the economic plan. i designed the 1994 campaign, which had the largest one party increase in american his

the fire was burning well before obama got there. it was policy and spending both from wall street and insiders in washington that got us in this problem. we need a candidate that can not only draw that stark contrast between themselves and barack obama, but also stand up and lead the tea party movement. 2010 was about the tea party standing up and understanding that republicans had caused as much of this problem as anything. it was their power that brought together, brought washington, d.c., and the house to republican control. that is the kind of individual we have got have the lead. >> i would be remiss if i did not allow you to respond, governor romney. what would you say to conservatives so that they trust you would stand up for conservative principles? >> they have my record as governor. that is the great people in new hampshire, they can see what i did as governor in massachusetts. i had the occasion after my failed attempt to run for president, a learning experience, to sit down and write a book. i described my view for the c

now obama is doing a sign up, big old dam. with the arab spring, with iran wchina building a navy, north korea having nuclear weapons and all it me, maybe i'm wrong, this is a statement. that is the number one job of the federal government is to fence of this country. >> amen. dalton on one thing -- in made an accurate statement but i strongly disagree with obama care. this is something that governor perdue and mr. dalton supported from the beginning. they recommended no changes in the legislation. they did not challenge legally the legislation. the impact this will have a north carolina is going to be dramatic. i am very concerned right now that we will have many businesses here in rocky mount that could literally -- we're not offering insurance anymore and we will pay the penalty of obama care and let the federal government taken over and literally not offer insurance to its employees anymore. the impact of this on our medicaid system which is already financially struggling, in three years, could be staggering to the state of north carolina. i do disagree with that. i think the states should come up with their own plan as opposed to the federal government having one plan for all 50 states. >> i do think the affordable care act needs some amendments to help small business but the reason i support it is because i think it will be good for the health
